I would remind you that extremism in the defense of liberty is no vice! And let me remind you also that moderation in the pursuit of justice is no virtue. -- Barry Goldwater

Legalizing Marijuana

If you think a conservative like myself would automatically support the legalization of marijuana (even for medicinal purposes) you would be wrong. At least not with the way things have been going as of late with our government expanding and moving more and more toward a marxist-socialist regime. What we need now are clear headed, motivated, freedom loving citizens to be aware of what is going on around us. Marijuana is, in reality, an enslaving, not liberating, drug. In my opinion it is the most dangerous drug of all because so many people consider it to be a harmless, innocuous, weed. It is also, very contrary to what the stoners will tell you, an addicting gateway drug.
One of the reasons we are facing what we are facing right now as a society and as a country is the insidious influence the drug culture has had over the minds of our developing young people over the past forty or fifty years. The stoners can defend and rationalize medical marijuana use all they want but there is no denying that there are other, legal, drugs that are more effective in relieving pain for those who genuinely need pain relief. Medical marijuana is a fraud being perpetrated on the public by the stoners and stoner enablers whose real agenda is total legalization of the drug. There is nothing medicinal about pot.

James Lovelock: Humans are too stupid to prevent climate change

Scientist Calls For Suspension Of Democracy To Fight Global Warming
This moron should be working in the Obama administration. The idea that democracy should be suspended because we are too stupid to counter a fraudulent, manufactured global warming crisis is the very essence of fascism. Of course it is published by the communist rag UK Guardian.
This is exactly what I referred to in yesterday's Who Gives Us Our Information?. Why would someone as intelligent as a scientist say something so idiotic? You tell me.
Now you may have noticed my use of terms such as communism, fascism, socialism, marxism, etc. and wonder if I am casually throwing them around. I'm not. Neither do I use them as mere name calling. I use them for a reason. The words may have different nuances but are all rooted in the same basic idea of a ruling elite controlling a population, or attitudes or policies that would tend to promote or adhere to this idea. All of them also, incidentally, have a profound dislike for capitalism and the free market system.

Who Gives Us Our Information?

Where do we get the information we use to form our opinions and make important decisions? What sources do we trust and rely upon? Where can we find independent sources whose only agenda is the truth?
All of television is controlled by the left, including Fox News. All of the print media is controlled by the left. Fox News is the one token "conservative" television station allowed to broadcast by the leftist FCC and that is only because Fox News portrays a fake, wishy-washy brand of conservatism subservient to the Republican Party. This is probably due to the fact that owner Rupert Murdoch is not really a dedicated conservative. Read the papers, watch televised media, listen to the radio, look around the internet. Where are the real conservatives? Where are the libertarians? Where are the independent journalists?
Listen to the news. Who is not apologizing for Barack Obama's policies? Who is reporting on Muslim radicalism in the U.S.? Who is not buying stories like Christian militia accused of plotting to kill cops? Who is accusing conservative talk radio of stirring things up? Who is accusing critics of the Obama administration of being anti-american, extreme right wing crazy people? Who is comparing global warming critics to holocaust deniers? How long will it be before they start arresting the dissenters?
Ten of the eleven top rated radio talk shows are conservative because that is one place where the conservative view point can be found. Even some of those are not real conservatives. Rush Limbaugh is merely an opportunist owned by the Republican Party. Glenn Beck makes conservatives look bad. Sean Hannity is nothing more than a shrill button pusher. I'm not saying don't listen to them, just take them with that grain of salt. The most genuine, honest to goodness conservative commentator I have found is Michael Savage.
So maybe this blog can help point you in the right direction. Listen to Savage, check out my related links. Start listening to and reading the news from a critical point of view understanding that it is all controlled by the left and their agenda will jump right out at you.

Health Care Is Not A Right

If health care is a right, why will it cost so much (an estimated $500 to$600 a month for young people)? Aren't our rights enumerated in the constitution? Wouldn't it take a constitutional amendment to make health care a right? If health care is a right why will it be mandatory with fines for non-compliance? Free speech is a right but it is not mandatory that we speak. We have the right to bear arms but we are not forced to. We have the right to vote but are not fined if we don't. Declaring something to be a right doesn't make it so.
Our government is not trying to help us, it wants to control us. Barack Obama is not a great leader, he is a scoundrel capable of giving a great speech. If he was a great leader he would be working to uphold The Constitution and limit the role of government in our lives. He is doing just the opposite.
Health care is not a right. The recently passed health care legislation is nothing more than a tool the Obama administration will use to control the population. There is no other reason for it. This bill is indefensible and anyone who tries to defend it is either a communist or blind to what is really going on.
"In numerous, thorough investigations on the background of Barack Obama, it can be concluded that none of his closest friends and associates can be considered 'in the political and social mainstream.'  In fact, all of his friends, associates, and closest advisers can be considered Leftwing extremists who are connected with the most radical proposals to systematically dismantle the American government, discard the Constitution, and usher in an American version of Marxism." Quoted from Before It's News

The Enemy Within

Is there any reason we should trust our government? One of the principles America was founded on was the basic principle of not trusting government, of being skeptical of everything government tries to do, of constantly questioning and holding government accountable to the people. Why do some of us seem so eager to trust the Obama government? Why are some of us so eager to trust the Obama government with something as all encompassing and personal as our health? I think one of the reasons is a belief that the Obama administration actually cares about us. It doesn't. Another reason is that we have been grossly misinformed by main stream media such as ABC, NBC, CBS, the socialist network CNN, and The New York Times which has become nothing more than a mouth piece for the Obama administration, to name a few. Too many of us are too willing to throw our country into the trash in the hope of getting something for nothing, not understanding that the price we will ultimately pay for our near sightedness will be too heavy to bear.
There are very few Edward R. Murrows these days and those who do exist are being attacked and defamed as being extreme right wing crazy people or labeled as terrorists. Dr. Michael Savage is right when he says that at some point the Obama administration will create a pretext to give it cause to impose some form of martial law upon us. The Democrats who passed this legislation against the will of the American people are already attempting to portray themselves as victims and the dissenters as extremist, right wing, racist sore losers and doing it with the assistance and collusion of main stream media such as mentioned above.
Why the big push by the Obama administration to nationalize health care? Why would they look for an excuse to impose some form of martial law to infringe upon even more of our freedoms? The answer is that they are lifelong adherents of a Marxist - Socialist ideology and are hungry to accumulate the necessary power to realize their political dreams. Barack Obama, Nancy Pelosi and Harry Reid want to be able to make decisions for us in every aspect of our lives. They are out to destroy everything that makes America great.

A Great Betrayal

I have so much to say about the nationalization of our health care that every time I sit down to write I don't know where to start. I hope you listened to Ronald Reagan speaking out against socialized medicine. I also hope you will listen to Michael Savage with an open, discerning mind. You can find him at michaelsavage.wnd.com, the talk radio network, youtube, or live on wsba910.com from 6 - 9 PM weeknights.
The nationalization of health care is the worst thing that has ever happened to America. What really gets me going is the giddy, treasonous morons who were willing to throw their country into the trash to pass this legislation. I am, of course, speaking about Nancy Pelosi, Harry Reid and President Obama. Obama has sealed his fate. He is now a one term president. As far as I'm concerned he has betrayed his country.
Please open your eyes and take a look at what is happening. Pay attention to what is going to happen in the coming days, weeks, and months. Read your history and check out some of my related links which will lead you on to other discoveries and maybe to the "Aha" moment that I had when I stopped dismissing conservative thinkers out of hand as wing nuts not to be considered and started to give them a fair hearing.

Is This What We Wanted?

Health care is not only a right but is now mandatory, subject to hefty fines and enforceable by the IRS. It is not change conservatives and libertarians are currently fighting ( we love change as much as anyone else ) but an admitted socialist administration imposing a sweeping, all encompassing health care bill on an American public who doesn't want or need it. What is happening should be extremely disturbing to anyone who loves America and the principles it was founded on.
No, I am not losing my mind. I am a life long liberal who loves his country and has awakened to see the error of his ways. Anyone who has been for health care reform up until now, please ask yourselves, is this the kind of bill you really wanted? Nancy Pelosi said last week " We need to pass the bill so that you can find out what is in it ". An amazing statement! More to come...

Conservative vs. Liberal beliefs

The link above, Conservative vs. Liberal beliefs, presented by Student News Daily, is an excellent side by side comparison of the two.
We'll see how things work out with national health care. As a conservative, I have serious issues with phrases like social equity and social justice. I feel we are headed down the wrong road, the one paved with good intentions.

Tattered Liberty

The IRS will be redistributing wealth under the health care bill passed by the Democrats. Social justice? Social equity? Sounds like socialism to me. This bill fundamentally changes America. This bill will do more damage to our country than any terrorist could imagine. The next thing you know they'll be arresting the dissenters. Is anyone out there actually THINKING?

Why I Changed My Mind

I am a life long liberal who has never voted for a conservative candidate for any office. I was brought up in a liberal Democratic family and taught, for the most part, by liberal Democratic teachers who all seemed to demonize conservatives and conservative thought. The message I got was "Oh. They're the crazy people." I have recently come to see how I was brainwashed and indoctrinated into the cult of liberalism and have been worshipping in the church of the state all my life.
Twenty years ago I received a little jolt when I read 'The Fountain Head' and then 'Atlas Shrugged' by Ayn Rand. Then also 'We The Living' and 'Anthem'. I shuffled the attractive libertarian ideas presented by Rand to the back of my mind in the face of severe criticism by friends. The "Oh. They're the crazy people" mentality again.
A couple of months ago I stumbled across Jonah Goldberg's 'Liberal Fascism'. More recently I've been secretly listening to conservative talk show personalities Glenn Beck, Rush Limbaugh and others. Listening to Glenn Beck led me to checking two of his books out of the library: 'Arguing With Idiots' and 'Common Sense'.
The evolution in my thinking led me to my own personal watershed moment, or epiphany, as the national health care debate reached a crescendo this week, weekend and particularly last night. I am postive the Founding Fathers are rolling over in their graves right now and may even rise from them.
Big Brother is here. This health care bill is the culmination of decades of insidious progressive influence fraught with personal irresponsibility and a sense of entitlement fostered by a "let the state take care of me", "the world owes me" attitude.
America was ripe for the picking. All we needed was a strong charismatic personality to come along, with vague but exciting promises of the change we've all been waiting for, to lead us like sheep to the slaughter. The day after Barack Obama was elected I observed two liberal "hippies" I know from seeing them around and who I know have always hated America, marching down Main Street in Montpelier, Vt., waving the U.S. flag and singing God Bless America.
I was struck today by the people who are happy, even giddy, about the passage of this health care bill, but have no idea what is actually in the bill.
This is a tragic day for America. An America that has been hijacked by socialism when she wasn't looking. As I posted on my Facebook page today, is anyone out there actually THINKING?

Congress has narrowly passed a bill that simultaneously undermines life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness.

Where were you yesterday as congress was debating the most important and most devastating legislation in forty years? I'm afraid we'll come to regret that we weren't paying attention as our constitutional rights, our independence and our freedom were taken away from us. Our only hope is that this may not be the final word, that this debate may not yet be over.

Health Care Debate

I watched seven hours of debate and voting on the health care bill today. It's telling that all the Republicans along with 34 Democrats voted against this bill (not a single Republican for it). We are entering the age of Big Brother and will have "social justice" and "social equity". The group is more important than the individual and we need the state to look out for us because we are incapable of looking out for ourselves. This bill will comprehensively let the state into our homes and our personal affairs and this, March 21, 2010, is a sad day indeed for America and The Constitution.

The Cult (Religion) of Liberalism (Collectivism)

I am starting to work on a post about the cult of liberalism. I've been thinking about how liberalism is really a cult and fits into the definition of what a cult is, so I Googled 'cult of liberalism' and discovered I'm not the first to think of liberalism in this way. Starting with the progressives in the 1920's up to the present, liberalism has infiltrated our society, our politics and way of thinking culminating in the election of Barack Obama, the current Democratic Congress and the looming health care legislation being considered this week and coming weekend. More to come...

The Proposed Health Care Bill

So I'm thinking the proposed health care bill that Congress is considering for a vote this weekend may not be the best thing for the country. It could change America in a way we may come to regret, exponentially increasing the role of government in our lives in ways we may not at present foresee. This is a very dangerous thing. Government seems to be taking over every aspect of our lives, approaching tyranny. Help Read The Health Care Bill

Working Things Out

OK. So I guess I'm not exactly sure what I'd like my blog to be about. Maybe, like Seinfeld, it could be about nothing. Maybe it could be an online journal about whatever strikes me that day. To be sure, I am interested in politics, news and coverage of the news media itself, but I also have an interest in sports. I read a lot. Right now I'm reading 'Salt: A world History' by Mark Kurlansky and two books by Glenn (yes) Beck.
Today I am in the middle of putting together an RTA computer desk I bought from Staples. The idea is the desk is actually an investment in my blog. Maybe, if things work out, I'll be able to write it off on next year's taxes.
I live in Montpelier, Vermont and am a professional waiter by trade, so I meet a lot of people to write about.
People tell me I am a passionate story teller expressing my "wise" opinions with color and insight and total astonishment when I am disagreed with. My interests are wide and varied and I promise to write a lot more in the future. Back to the desk. Good day!
