Police in California say they have seized $1.7bn worth of marijuana plants in the Sierra Nevada mountains.
They have also arrested 97 people over the past three weeks, most of them Mexican nationals believed to have ties with Mexican drug cartels.
"Mexican cartels are bringing illegal immigrants to grow and harvest marijuana in rural areas of the state [Oklahoma] rather than smuggling large amounts of it into the country".
So Mexico's drug cartels are connected to The United States in more ways than one. Their product is not only being sold and used here but also grown and harvested here. There are the stories linked to above from Oklahoma and California and also this one from Oregon warning hunters to watch out for drug cartel gardens while hunting in the forest. Oregon is 1200 miles away from Mexico and Oklahoma is not a border state. So where else in the country may these violent criminals be growing their weed?
America's most dangerous drug is becoming more dangerous and there seems to be no end in sight to the violence and mayhem that's currently taking place in Mexico and spilling across the border.
28,000 people have died in the Mexican drug war over the past four years fighting over drugs that end up here. How can a drug user say that their habit hurts no one else?
